Tigers Celebrate Birthday at Binghamton Zoo

BINGHAMTON -- A pound of meat isn't your typical birthday gift, but it was perfect for these honorees.

The Binghamton Zoo celebrated the sixth birthday of their two tigers: Koosaka and Terney. Visitors got to watch the cats tear open birthday gifts full of fish and chicken. The birthday girls even got their own birthday cake: a block of frozen fish.

"The children relate to birthdays the same way our cats do.  They're all children.  They all love opening packages and gifts, seeing what they got from their parents.  Or in this case, their caretakers," said David Orndorff, Ceneral Curator at the Ross Park Zoo.

The tigers usually get fed 10 pounds of meat per day, so Saturday's packages were an extra treat.
