Troop C Honors Fallen Officers

The 16 officers from State Police Troop "C" in Sidney lost in the line of duty were honored Thursday at the troop's annual Memorial Day service.

One of the themes of the day was that once someone joins the ranks of law enforcement, they are part of that family for life. It's a sentiment echoed by Ricky Parisian, a Troop C member who was killed in the line of duty on May 20, 1994.

"Being invited back year after year to the memorial service in Sidney continually reminds us that it's not just the immediate family that feels the loss on a day-to-day basis, it's the whole state police family," said Debra Parisian, widow of Rick Parisian.

"Just walking in today, seeing people that I worked with, getting to meet them it was more of a reunion. But when I walked in the building I had that anticipation of that grief hitting me again. But once I saw the smiling faces and the handshakes and the hugs it's nice to have that reunion feeling," said Mark Parisian, retired trooper and brother of Rick Parisian.

The last Troop C member to lose their life in the line of duty was Jill Mattice in 2010.
