BU's Poetry and Children Day

Hundreds of young kids showcased their knack for language.
Students from all over the Southern Tier read aloud their own poems Wednesday at Binghamton University.

The 36th Annual Poetry and Children Day featured a range of poems: from funny to tragic.

Award-winning children's author Liz Rosenberg entertained the children, and she says poetry is for everyone.

"Kids are deeper than they get credit for being.  And I think they get to express that depth when they write poems," said guest speaker Liz Rosenberg.

"It was fun because I like to play softball and it was fun to write about what I like to do in softball," said 4th grader Jenna Batzel of Windsor.

The program was originally created as a memorial to Robert Pawlikowski-- a published poet and creative writing instructor at BU.
