Chenango Valley School Budget Public Hearing
5/13/2013 (Updated 10:55:44 PM)In two weeks, residents in the Chenango Valley school district will vote on whether to approve a new school budget.
On Monday, the Board of Education held a public hearing at the middle school, giving voters a chance to comment.
The proposed budget is close to $33,308,654-- a $975,638 increase from last year.
There are no program or staffing cuts this year and the budget includes adding an additional staff member.
"Our allowable tax levy is 6 percent and we worked very hard to get that to a respectable 2.13 percent. That's maintaining the programs that we currently have and also adding an additional teacher to support our AIS program," said David Gill, Superintendent of Chenango Valley Schools.
The public can vote on the budget May 21st from 9-12 at Chenango Valley High School.
If the budget doesn't pass, the board can make changes to the budget and hold a second vote or adopt a contingency budget--where cuts would be made to remove $38,569 from the budget and there would be no tax levy increase.
