Riverwalk Hotel Now Known as the Double Tree

After Tropical Storm Lee caused large amounts of damage to the Riverwalk Hotel in 2011 the building went under a two year, multi-million dollar renovation.

Tuesday it officially opened as the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel.

Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan, city council members and hotel staff were all on hand to celebrate the ribbon cutting.

The hotel almost shut down after the flood, but county officials say the renovation is a sign of a revival of the area.

"The growth of this hotel is also symbolic of the growth of our region and our recovery from major flooding.  As our colleges and university continue to grow. and we continue our economic rebound, Broome County is again becoming a destination community and center of trade and commerce," said Broome County Executive Debbie Preston.

"This is just one of the great days of me being mayor.  It's one of my greatest days to see this happen because I know how much impact it will have on the future," said Mayor Matt Ryan.

The 207 room hotel overlooks the Chenango River.  The Binghamton hotel is one of four Double Trees in upstate New York.
