Student Volunteers Renovate Ross Park Zoo Carousel

BINGHAMTON -- A group of local students are working to maintain Binghamton's reputation as the 'Carousel Capital of the World.'  BU students joined CITIZEN U volunteers at the Ross Park Zoo carousel Saturday for a day of renovations.

"Carousels are a staple of the community.  They're one of Binghamton's biggest attractions.  So it's really great to be able to come and help a piece of Binghamton history and help get it ready for everybody to see it and enjoy it," said Pat Madej, of Youth Engagement VISTA at BU.

"Having the BU students with the Binghamton local students, it's been a lot of fun talking to everyone, bonding, and also helping the community," said Margarita Krainova of BU.

"We raised a bunch of money and we're using that for supplies and tools so they can keep doing clean-ups like this and help to improve the community," said Madej.
