2013 Broome/Tioga Special Olympics

BINGHAMTON -- Disabled athletes got a chance to put their rigorous training to the test Saturday.

Hundreds got to compete in a variety of track and field events at the Broome/Tioga Special Olympics Tournament at Chenango Valley High School.  Our very own Ali Warner ran along with the torch runners in a relay.  There were athletes of all ages throwing frisbees, running races, and jumping hurdles.

"The level of athletes when they come here, how serious they are.  And here, win or lose, it's about friendship.  They meet friends," said Lowell Taylor, local coordinator of the Special Olympics.

The winners from Saturday's events will go on to compete in the state-wide Special Olympics later this summer.
