B-Sens swept: Season ends with 3-2 loss to Penguins

WILKES-BARRE, P.A.  A three goal third period helped the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins complete a first round sweep of the Binghamton Senators. The Penguins took game Game 3, 3-2 and the best-of-five series 3-0 on Thursday night at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.

The B-Sens struck first as Matt Puempel put Binghamton on the board 1-0 just five minutes into the first period. Mark Stone drew the lone assist on Puempels goal  his second of the playoffs.

The B-Sens held their 1-0 edge over their I-81 rivals until 7:32 of the third period as Zach Sill cashed in a feed from Jayson Megna, shorthanded to tie the game at one. Riley Holzapfel gave the Pens the lead, 2-1, with a goal at 18:42 of the third. Megna extended Wilkes-Barres lead to 3-1 with just 28 seconds remaining in the game.

The B-Sens snuck in one more goal as captain Mark Borowiecki tallied his first of the playoffs with just 1.7 seconds remaining to set the score at 3-2.

Nathan Lawson started in goal for the B-Sens making 25 saves on 27 shots. Brad Thiessen made his first start in goal of the post-season for the Penguins, making 19 saves on 21 shots to help secure the series for Wilkes-Barre.
