Dog Owners Discuss Dog Park For Owego

Dogs could have a new hang out in Owego as plans for a dog park are underway.

The Owego Dog Owners Group talked with town officials Thursday about what's involved in construction of a dog area within the already existing Hickories Park.

Issues include whether the dog owners group would need liability insurance, where the area would be located within the park and how large it would be, and what kind of operation and maintenance plan would be needed.

Dog owners say they like the idea of having a dog park not far away.

"Very because it's a lot closer to home then driving 35 minutes, and it's a beautiful park, and it's open and I'll be able to meet other people and my dogs will be able to play with other dogs," said Cheri Carter of Newark Valley.

According to the Owego Dog Owners Group, the project will be fully funded by Adam Weitsman in memory of his sister.
