Harvey Stenger: Pharmaceutical Sciences Could Be in BU's Future

Binghamton University students may soon be able to get a degree in pharmacy.

The plan for a new school of pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacy is part of president Harvey Stenger's road map to guide Binghamton to becoming the premier public university of the 21st century.

Stenger says with the new degree, students could earn a doctoral of pharmacy in four years. He says it is a natural path for the University to take.

"Probably the major component would be research, in terms of drug discovery, drug delivery, and drug industry.  So we think the popularity of that degree as well as the expertise we have in functional sciences research is just a natural idea for us," said BU President Harvey Stenger.

Stenger says a plan for the new school could be approved within 12-18 months, and the program could start in two years.
