City of Binghamton's Fifth Annual Business Plan Competition Begins

If you've got an idea for a business, the City of Binghamton wants to hear from you.
It is holding its fifth annual Business Plan Competition. The winner will get a $5,000 grant as well as package of free advertising and professional services.

Last year's winner was Communikey, which partners with local businesses to offer college students discounts and special offers. Their business plan win helped spur growth:

"In our first year we had 40 businesses and about 1,000 CommuniKey members. This year we have over 60 businesses and over 2,000 CommuniKey card holders," said Lee Rogers of CommuniKey.

"We've noticed over the years that every year the business plans have gotten more competitive. Last year we had a great group of finalists. They were very, very viable," said Merry Harris, Director of Economic Development for the City of Binghamton.
