SAFE Act Provisions Go Into Affect Monday
4/14/2013 (Updated 10:52:13 PM)Some provisions in the New York Secure Ammunition and Fire Arms Enforcement Act go into affect on Monday.
Originally the SAFE Act prohibited the sale of 10 round magazines, but the New York budget bill suspended this provision, allowing the magazines to continue to be sold, but requiring no more than seven rounds to be loaded into them. This law goes into affect Monday.
Also-, forms to register certain assault riffles and semi-automatic guns with military style features will be available online on Monday,
Registration is required for anyone who owned these types of guns before January 15th.
The forms will be available online at governor.ny.gov and are due by April 15, 2014.
The SAFE Act was signed into law on January 15th in response to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
