Voters Deny Vestal New Fire Truck
4/10/2013 (Updated 10:49:46 PM)In Vestal, the latest issue is the voter's rejection of the purchase of a new fire rescue truck.
The volunteer fire department hoped to borrow $800,000 to replace the 27 year old truck. It was defeated by just seven votes in Tuesday's referendum.
The fire chief says the truck has several problems which could affect the department's response in emergency situations.
"It could --if we had mechanical problems, since at one time we had to put the truck out of service for three to four months because it had a bad radiator. Now, we're down to one truck," said Vestal Fire Chief Patrick McPherson.
A number of Vestal officials were surprised by the voter's rejection of the proposed purchase of a new truck. One official told us it's a wake-up call and a sign of the times-- of the mood of the voters.
