Vestal Voters Say No to New Fire/Rescue Truck
4/9/2013 (Updated 4/11/2013 3:10:45 AM)Vestal voters Tuesday night narrowly decided not to spend $800,000 dollars for a new fire/rescue truck:
The vote, which was declared after a recount because of how close it was, showed that there were 189 no votes and 182 yes votes..
Officals say the new truck was needed, because the old one is aging.
The defeat reportedly surprised a number of officials, who expected the measure to pass --especially since the cost would be bonded, and it would cause no tax increase --according to an official.
One official who did not want to be identified said, "it's a wake-up call--a sign of the times...and the mood of the taxpayers.".
