Cuomo Proposes Tougher Corruption Laws
4/9/2013 (Updated 11:27:54 PM)Clamping down on corruption? In Albany? A tall order, maybe, but in the wake of corruption scandals involving former State senate President Malcolm Smith and an assemblyman from the Bronx, Governor Cuomo on Tuesday proposed tougher anti-bribery laws. His Public Trust
Act would toughen current bribery laws and would make the failure of a public official to report a bribe a misdemeanor.
A new class of felony public corruption crimes would also impose additional penalties, apart from jail sentences and criminal fines, to include a lifetime ban from state government.
