Local Teens Prepare Garden Beds for Seniors
4/6/2013 (Updated 10:45:10 PM)BINGHAMTON -- A group of local teens spent the day gardening to better the diets-- and lifestyles-- of a group of seniors.
Members of Saint Cyril's and Methodius' Church joined residents of East Hills Senior Housing Saturday to prepare garden beds for planting. They broke out their shovels and wheelbarrows to get the soil ready for a variety of vegetables like cucumbers, tomatoes, and peppers.
"The residents get to enjoy the food that is wonderful and healthy and fresh, and enjoy health benefits of gardening and being out in this gorgeous day," said Julia Mahar, of Broome County Council of Churches.
The group says the vegetables will be planted over the next couple of weeks, as long as the weather cooperates.
