American Red Cross Hosts CPR Saturday
3/30/2013 (Updated 10:58:40 PM)JOHNSON CITY -- You never know when you may have the chance to save a loved one's life.
The Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross hosted "CPR Saturday" at the Oakdale Mall to teach area residents how to give CPR to someone who isn't breathing. With the help of an instructor, they practiced chest compressions on dummies. Instructors say it is crucial to be able to keep someone alive until medical professionals arrive.
"It's not very common that we might have to give CPR, but you also never know when someone's going to drop," said instructor Lance Lee.
"You have to be able to do it if your mom and dad happen to collapse because they're choking or something. Then they'll be able to stay alive," said student Vanessa Rodzinka.
CPR Saturday events were available to the public across the Southern Tier in honor of Red Cross Month. For more visit Redcross.org/ny/endicott.
