Vigil Held For Double Homicide Victims
3/27/2013 (Updated 11:06:55 PM)It has been a difficult day for the friends, family and acquaintances of Christina Powell and Mario Masciarelli. A viewing for one, and a candlelight vigil for both.
The two were victims of a double homicide. Their bodies were found at the home at 4185 Lisi Lane in the Town of Binghamton on Friday.
Hundreds showed their support Wednesday for two families who lost loved ones last week.
At Rec Park, family and friends lit candles and said prayers for 35-year-old Powell and 24-year-old Masciarelli.
Luanne Dirico, whose husband was Masciarelli's cousin, said she organized Wednesday's vigil to help the community heal.
Earlier that day, calling hours were held for Powell at the James V. Demarco and Son Funeral Home.
Hundreds came out to say their goodbyes-- the line wrapping around the building. Friends described Powell as family oriented--never missing a nephew's basketball game and always taking her son to B-Mets and B-Sens games.
Her funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church.
Calling hours and a funeral will be held for Masciarelli on Friday at the Assembly of God Church starting at 10 a.m.
Christina's estranged husband, Aaron Powell, was taken into custody on Tuesday. He is now charged with two counts of second degree murder. He has plead not guilty.
