Home Energy Assessments Can Save Owners Money
3/27/2013 (Updated 11:04:16 PM)A home energy assessment could be the first step to saving big bucks on your utility bill - and the State of New York wants to help you make that leap.
The Green Jobs Green New York program held a workshop at the Endicott Visitors Center Wednesday. The program offers free or low-cost assessments for homeowners, if you use an accredited contractor.
Homeowners who make the recommended improvements save an average of $900 annually.
"We have low-interest loans, we have grants of up to $5,000 for single-family homes. Basically it can pay for half of the cost of the energy upgrades," said Brad Pacalis of the Public Policy and Education Fund of NY.
Contractors will inspect your home for insulation, air leaks, and also issues such as mold and other indoor pollutants. For more information you can call 607-723-0110.
