Increased Funding For Roads, Bridges
3/27/2013 (Updated 11:05:43 PM)Local road and bridge repair will get a significant boost this year-which could in turn boost the local economy.
New York State's proposed budget would provide almost $6.9 million in funding for road and bridge repair projects in Broome County, an increase of over $1.2 million. Tioga County will see almost $3.3 million for repairs, an increase of more than $600,000.
Broome County Executive Debbie Preston says you can expect to see more paved roads, fewer potholes, and improved sewers in the county.
"The Governor, Senate, and Assembly know how important infrastructure is to New York State. If we don't have good infrastructure, we're never going to bring in business and we''re never going to create more jobs," said Preston.
The budget calls for $438 million dollars in road and bridge repair spending throughout the state, an increase of $75 million dollars from last year.
