Zumbathon Held in Honor of Fallen Captain Matthew Porcari
3/17/2013 (Updated 11:03:36 PM)OWEGO -- Over a hundred people came out on Sunday to remember fallen Owego Firefighter Matthew Porcari, and do some Zumba.
A group of Zumba instructors called the Owego Girlz, hosted a Zumbathon at the Tioga Boys and Girls Club to raise money for the Porcari Children's Memorial Fund and the Owego Fire Department. A DJ blasted upbeat tunes while the girls showed the crowd how to move.
"You're involved in Zumba-- it's a giving thing. It not only makes you feel good, and it's there for everybody, but it's also about giving," said Sarah Fahl of the Owego Girlz.
"It shows our community is coming together to support each other," said participant Kylie Ingraham.
Between the registration fees and donations, the event raised thousands of dollars.
