Schumer Announces Federal Action Will Be Taken to Reduce Number of Trucks Striking Bridges
3/11/2013 (Updated 11:01:02 PM)After months of work with regulators and truck organizations, U.S. Senator Charles Schumer announced on Monday the federal government will take action to reduce the number of trucks striking bridges due to misused GPS devices.
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety administration will issue official
recommendations and bring GPS training into new entry-level certification programs for commercial drivers.
Just last week, the Binghamton Metropolitan Transportation Study Policy Committee approved a project to lower the road on the Clinton and Front Street intersection to keep trucks from getting stuck under the bridge.
