Families Shop at 7th Annual Binghamton Camper and RV Show

BINGHAMTON -- It wasn't your typical sight at Binghamton University Sunday-- nearly 50 recreation vehicles covered the floor for the 7th Annual Binghamton Camper and RV Show.

The Karlesky family is looking to take a unique vacation-- so they went shopping for an RV.

"Just spend time with family, more family time," said Paul Karlesky.

Hundreds of families came out to the show to search for the perfect vehicle to take for fishing, hunting, and camping trips.

"It's just a nice getaway.  You meet some great, great people," said George Hamm, General Manager of Hillcrest RV Sales in Binghamton.

Show organizers say this is their biggest event yet-- a reflection of the growing popularity in the vehicles.  RV Industry Association reports say the market grew 13 percent between 2011 and 2012, and over 300,000 RV's are predicted to be sold in 2013.

"I think it's going to get bigger yet, I really do.  Because it's an inexpensive way to travel," said Hamm.

And the RV's are changing with time too.

"They're getting more and more fancy.  More electronics, easier to tow, better equipped," said Hamm.

The Karlesky's say they like the convenience of having a home on wheels.

"I could always have friends over, we could always go camping together," said Alyssa Karlesky.

And even though they are looking forward to more quality time together, the family says the trip will have its challenges too.

"Hopefully we can handle each other until we get there," said Paul Karlesky.
