New York Sees January Job Growth
3/8/2013 (Updated 11:19:42 PM)January marked the 17th straight month of private sector job growth here in New York, a state record.
Unfortunately for binghamton, that job growth was mostly in the New York City area, and not so much around this area, according to the Department of Labor.
Local economist Christian Harris says that the Binghamton area is only up about 100 jobs compared to this time in 2012.
So why is binghamton struggling?
"Manufacturing government still continue to be out downward forces unfortunately are our head winds moving forward. We're likely to see manufacturing losses kind of stick with us for the first part of this year," said Christian Harris, Regional Labor Market Analyst.
New York State's economy added nearly 30,000 jobs in January.
