MMA in New York State?
3/8/2013 (Updated 9:26:11 PM)Well on Wednesday the New York Senate approved a bill allowing professional MMA competition in the state, but what will the assembly decide?
Local representatives in the New York Assembly spoke out Friday in favor of the bill.
Assemblyman Clifford Crouch and Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo say MMA will be great for the economy, and it has a good chance of passing this year.
"The state would take sales taxes off tickets and take sales tax off of beverages and refreshments sold. It would be a really good boost for the economy from the state perspective and even local merchants," said Crouch.
"It's legal in almost every other state in the country. And I think it's probably something that is time for New York to take up," said Lupardo.
Crouch says he hopes the assembly will reach a decision by the end of March.
