15th Annual Southern Tier Speedworld Car Show

JOHNSON CITY -- It wasn't your typical sight inside the Oakdale Mall today-- the building was filled with nearly 100 race cars.

It was the 15th Annual Southern Tier Speedworld Car Show, drawing passionate drivers and engineers from all over the Southern Tier.  Engineering students from Binghamton University had a chance to showcase their own creations: a high mileage car and mini baja.

"It's good to apply our learned engineering concepts to things we're passionate about.  Everyone here at this show is passionate about racing," said BU Student Rory Haggerty.

"It's good exposure for the drivers and sponsors and there are beautiful race cars here," said Don Harpell, the director of the show.

The BU students say they are currently designing two new cars to enter into an international competition in April.
