The JCC Hosts Community Purim Carnival
2/24/2013 (Updated 11:01:41 PM)VESTAL -- Kids from the entire community came out to celebrate the most festive holiday of the Jewish calendar Sunday.
The JCC hosted its annual Purim carnival, a celebration of an ancient victory, when Queen Esther saved the lives of the Jews of Shushan from an evil adviser. Families came dressed in costumes to play games and eat traditional holiday cookies.
"Today is about having fun and it's a chance for all the kids in the whole community to come and celebrate. It's a carnival so there's games and bouncy houses," said local Rabbi Shalom Kantor.
Festival-goers say the holiday is simply about celebrating the triumph of good over evil.
