Update on Walton Fire

Police say one of the people whose remains were found after a fire in Walton on Monday died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

State police identify the woman as 48-year-old Debra Sundstrom of Walton.

Identification and cause of death for a second set of remains found after the fire is pending.

The fire has been ruled an arson. Police responded to the home on John Lockwood Road in Walton Monday afternoon and entered the house after hearing a pair of shots.

Upon seeing a dead woman on the second floor they had to flee as flames spread. The second set of remains were found in the basement.
