Binghamton Man Faces Felony Charges for Stabbing Wife

BINGHAMTON -- A Binghamton man is behind bars for allegedly stabbing his wife and stealing her purse.

Police arrested 39-year old Esteban Valdes Sunday.  He is charged with Aggravated Criminal Contempt, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Assault in the 2nd Degree, and Grand Larceny in the 4th Degree.  All are Class A felonies.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office responded to an apartment at 17 Market St. shortly after 9pm Sunday for a report of a stabbing.  Deputies located a female victim, Valdes' wife whom she had an order of protection against, with minor injuries from a knife,

Valdes was found by Johnson City Police a short distance away while fleeing the scene on foot.

Valdes was arrested and arraigned in the Town of Dickinson court.  He remains in the Broome County Jail without bail.

The woman was treated for her injuries at a local hospital.
