Pirohi Fridays at St. Michael's

This Friday marked the first Friday of Lent- and for many Catholics, it is a day to abstain from eating meat

For the past half century, St. Michael's Greek Catholic Church in Binghamton has been providing the community with meat-free meals on Fridays during the Lenten season.

About 100 volunteers prepare the Slovak delicacy -Pirohis.

"A lot of people in the parish make the pirohi but we have a lot of people out of the parish who help us.  A lot of people come here to eat this great Lenten food so it's a lot of fun and great fellowship," says Father Jim Dutko.

The Lenten lunch tradition will be held every Friday throughout the Lenten season.
