Both Sides Gear Up Awaiting Decision on Fracking

The state DEC needs to publish its fracking regulations by next Wednesday in order for it to release the regs by a February 27th deadline.
If the DEC misses that deadline, the timeline for a decision on fracking could be delayed weeks, months, or longer.
"You know that Ohio took care of this entire regulatory process in eight months and New York and this governor can't get it done in four-and-a-half years. There's something wrong if that's the case. Someone is not doing their job," said attorney Scott Kurkoski of the Joint Landowners Coalition of New York.
"If there is a substantial delay for any reason whatsoever we're going to get closer and closer to the gubernatorial election cycle and that very likely will be a deterrent to the governor to allow fracking to proceed," said Walter Hang of Toxics Targeting.
Landowners will hold a pro-fracking rally in Binghamton.
