Has Oxford Banned Gas Drilling?

It is not a ban or moratorium, but trustees say it does prevent gas drilling in the Village of Oxford
 
By a four to one vote, the village  trustees Tuesday night approved what they call a confirmatory amendment to an existing zoning ordinance.

Trusteee John O'Connor tells Fox 40 News that the amendment does not specifially ban gas drilling, but asserts that the process is not allowed, because of its omission from the original zoning ordinance.

O'Connor says there are no winners or losers because of the vote  --it was merely a clarification of existing law.

The Concerned Residents of Oxford --an anti-fracking group--calls it the first gas drilling ban on record in Chenango County.
