Can for Canines Bottle Drive

Could your empty soda can improve the life of man's best friend? The Binghamton Humane Society is holding a Cans for Canines bottle drive from now through Saturday.

The money will be used for vet care for the animals. The Humane Society has a number of pit bull and pit mixes available for adoption. Over the weekend Binghamton Police say an owner killed his pit bull after it had attacked him and his wife. The Humane Society stresses that proper training is key for anyone adding a dog to their family, whether it be a pit bull or any other breed.

"We tell any adopter for our dogs to get them to a training class, whether it's a Shi Tzu, pitbull, or rottie. Get to know your dog through taking it to training, find out what it's issues might be, find out how to control the dog," said Laurie Hubik, Shelter Manager.

Hubik says the Humane Society tries to find out as much as it can about an animal's history before taking it in so it can pass that info along to potential adopters.
