Balloon over JC simulates possible cell tower

JOHNSON CITY -- It's Plan B for AT&T in Johnson City.  A balloon flying 120-feet high flew above Reynolds Road today, as a way to simulate any potential visual impacts of a proposed cell phone tower.

Capital Telecom will build the tower which will be used by AT&T.  The original plan was to put it on Deyo Hill Road but the village decided to not renew the company's lease on the village land.  This tower would be on private property.

"There was so much controversy over that that we asked AT&T to look elsewhere to see if they could find something else, and that's what they did. And this is what they've come up with as an idea," said Johnson City Mayor Greg Deemie (R).

The Johnson City Zoning Board will hold a public hearing on the proposed tower on Monday, February 11th at 7:30pm
