(Source: Jeremy Donovan)Very rarely do Super Bowl's go all the way down to the last second, but after the 49ers closed to within a three points after a 49ers safety with four seconds left, San Francisco needed a punt return to win it. Unfortunately for them, Ted Ginn Jr. only made it to midfield.
For Jones, it was his first trip to the Super Bowl. While the Ravens beat the Giants in Super Bowl XXXV in 2000, Jones would not be drafted for another 10 years. Despite never being on the world's biggest stage before, the third year defensive lineman showed up to play. He registered two tackles, including a sack and a tackle for loss, as well as a fumble recovery.
Jones is the second U-E Tiger to appear in a Super Bowl. Back in 2005, Isaiah Kacyvenski was the Special Teams Captain of the Seattle Seahawks. But the Seahawks were no match for the Pittsburgh Steelers who won Super Bowl XL 21-10.
However, In the last few years, the Southern Tier has had plenty of success among the professional ranks. By winning the Super Bowl, Art now has a title to compliment his younger brother Jon "Bones" Jones who is the reigning UFC Heavyweight Champ. Let's not forget about Ithaca native Dustin Brown and the Los Angeles Kings winning the Stanley Cup in the 2011-2012 season. Also, add to that the first career All-Star Appearance for Baltimore Orioles closer, and also a U-E alum, Jim Johnson.
Joe Flacco was named MVP of Super Bowl XLVII. The Ravens' Quarterback completed 22 of his 33 pass attempts, threw for 287 yards, and three touchdowns.
