Potential Flooding
1/30/2013 (Updated 11:31:32 PM)
In Vestal Wednesday evening, Supervisor John Schaffer has been checking the Susquehanna River, to see how high and how fast the water is rising. Ali Warner has been with Schaffer-- standing on the bridge on Bridge Street.
Schaffer says he is always concerned when there is flood potential. However he says flooding shouldn't be a concern unless the river reaches over 18 feet.
The National Weather Services predicts minor flooding with river levels reaching about a foot above the 18 foot flood stage.
The rainy weather is also complicating repair work at one of the recent water main breaks in the area.
Wednesday afternoon, the city closed Felters Road to traffic from Conklin Ave to Saratoga Ave due to grade instability. Crews repaired a water main break on that site earlier this week but the area around the repair has gotten spongy due to the warm weather.
A new repair is expected to take most of the day Thursday to complete.
