Vestal Rail Trail Plans

They are trying to get back on the trail in Vestal.

A past funding shortfall, delaying a $2.7 million expansion of the popular rail-trail might have now been filled.

$900,000in federal grant money  could be redirected to the trail project, through Binghamton's Regional Transportation Planning Agency.

Vestal's Supervisor says it could be great news.

"How many people go there and how many people are really from Vestal.  A lot of people from Endicott come, they come down from Binghamton.  It's peaceful, it's safe, it's clean and they like it.  Hopefully this second section will be just as appealing as the first," says John Schaffer, Vestal Town Supervisor

The project would add more than a mile and a half to the 2.1 mile trail.  The new section would extend the path between Main Street and Castle Gardens.
