A VERY mess start to the work week.

The National Weather Service in Binghamton has the entire viewing area under a Winter Weather Advisory.

For the following counties: Yates, Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, Steuben, Schuyler, Chemung, Tompkins, Cortland, Tioga, Broome, Bradford, Susquehanna, Wyoming, Lackawanna, and Luzerne: The Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 5pm Monday afternoon.

Accumulations of snow 1-2" is possible by Monday afternoon.  Local higher terrain could see up to 3".  Counties to the north and east of Binghamton could see 2-4".  Areas west of Binghamton only ~1" likely.

As a warm front lifts north, so will warmer temperatures.

This will result in a change over to mix precipitation in the form of sleet and freezing rain Monday afternoon.

The icy conditions on top of the snowfall will make travel very difficult during rush hour.  Up to .2" of an inch of ice could accumulate.

Once the temperatures reach above freezing, we should transition to all rain.  That should happen by Monday evening.

Also, have to mention the winds.  It will be pretty breezy with wind gusts in excess of 25 miles per hour.

To recap:
Snow until noon.
Sleet/Freezing Rain until ~5pm.
All rain after that.
