Porcupine Hike at Binghamton University

You're used to seeing students on Binghamton University's campus, but what about porcupines?

The Naturalists' Club of Broome County led a porcupine hike through BU's Nature Preserve Saturday morning. The group visited several hemlock groves, which house and protect many animals during snow-filled winters.  The group looked for deer, red squirrels, owls, and of course-- porcupines.

"They don't realize we have porcupines around-- a lot of them.  Unless they've seen maybe a road-kill porcupine.  So they're always a bit surprised to find them like this," said Victor Lamoureux, the Director of Programs for The Naturalists' Club of Broome County.

The director also said the hikes have been going on for 20 years, with many regular participants.
