Calling Hours Held for Owego Fire Captain

OWEGO -- Hundreds of people from all over the country came out to the calling hours for Owego Fire Captain  Matthew Porcari on Saturday.

Porcari died on Monday while fighting a blaze at a Newark Valley home when the first floor gave way and he fell into the basement.

Representatives from at least 50 fire departments from as far away as Los Angeles came to Owego Middle School, where Matthew was an alumni, to pay their respects.

An Owego firefighter told us he was touched by how many came together to remember Matthew, who he says was like a brother.

"Matt was a very caring person.  He would do anything for anybody.  He would give the shirt off his back.  He was always one of the first in any fire, no matter what it was.  He was there until the end," said Jim Morris, Assistant Chief of Owego Fire Dept.

The funeral for Porcari will be held tomorrow at Owego Middle School at 2 pm.
