Da Costa, Lehner give B-Sens shootout victory

SYRACUSE, N.Y.  The Binghamton Senators beat the Eastern Division rival Syracuse Crunch tonight, 1-0, in a goaltender dual ending in shootout fashion.  Robin Lehner made 40 saves through regulation and overtime while Stephane Da Costa scored the lone shootout goal to help the B-Sens earn the extra point, keeping them in first place overall in the division and providing a two-point cushion between them and the second place Crunch.

After sixty scoreless minutes of hockey in which the Crunch outshot the B-Sens, 37-25, the two squads headed to overtime for the second time in the season series and ultimately to a shoot out.

The scoreless tie would finally be broken as Da Costa scored the games only goal in the third round of the shootout beating Dustin Tokarski to help the B-Sens snap a two-game skid.  It was also Binghamton s first shootout win of the season.

Lehner recorded his second shutout of the season for the B-Sens as he was perfect on all 40 shots he faced and stonewalled all five Crunch players faced in the shootout. Tokarski came away with the loss despite also earning a shutout by making 27 saves and stopping three of four B-Sens in the shootout.

The B-Sens return home tomorrow as they host the Hershey Bears at 7:05 p.m.
