Fire in Chenango Bridge

Yet another fire to report to you Friday evening.  This one in Chenango Bridge on Jewel Avenue near Kattelville Road.

The homeowner tells us he noticed a funny smell when he got home late this afternoon.  He got out and called 911.

The homeowner says his house is a total loss-- we asked responders if they were thinking of Monday night's fire in Newark Valley which took the life of  Owego Fire Captain Matthew Porcari.

"No, what was on my mind tonight was my guys and the fire here, trying to pay attention to what's going on. [We are] trying to catch up with [the fire], it got a head-start on us. Like I said, the basement was fully engulfed, we got in there to do a good know-down, but once it gets between the walls..." said Chief Bryan Curtis, Chief of Chenango Bridge Fire Co.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
