Science Fair in Vestal: Big Hit with the Kids

How's this for science class? Kids in Vestal got to control their own versions of the mars rover Wednesday at the Glenwood Elementary School.

It was one of three science stations the kids explored. They also made their own test-tube lava lamps and learned all about a red-tailed hawk who made a special appearance in the school's library.

But the remote control rover robots seemed to be a big hit.

"We're relating the Mars Rover mission to these little toy rovers that they got to play with. And they get to see how these parts work together in unison," said Roy Williams of the Kopernik Observatory.

"I learned that oil and water don't mix together and oil is heavier than water," said Ella McIntyre, a first-grader at the Glenwood Elementary School.

Wednesday's event helps set the stage for the school's science fair on Thursday night, February 7th at 6:30.

This year's theme is "wonder, explore, discover."Sc
