Senate Says Yes; NY Heading Toward Passage of Tough Gun Law

Late Monday evening, Governor Cuomo and the state legislature appeared to be on their way toward passage of what could be the toughest gun control legislation in the nation.

A tentative deal was reported to be agreed upon earlier in the day.
The Senate passed the resolution overwhelmingly later in the evening. The measure is expected to be taken up by the Assembly on Tuesday.

The governor wants the new measures to take effect immediately, so state residents would not have time to stock up on banned or restricted items.
In addition to much tighter restrictions of assault rifles, with many loopholes closed regarding their purchase,  the legislation could include limiting the maximum number of rounds in a magazine from ten to seven and changes to mental health laws.
Fox 40 news will have full coverage of the developments, on the 6 and 10PM broadcasts.
