Local Gun Store Owners on Gun Violence

Local gun store owners have a different view of what it takes to control gun violence.

Chuck Sherwood of the Timber Creek Sportsman Shop in Endwell feels proper training and responsible handling of guns is key. sherwood also says people who buy guns from stores like his go through state, federal, and local criminal background checks, as well as a mental health background check. he feels the government needs to enforce current laws better.

"The federal government or the state government would like to see a lot of the gun dealers gone so they wouldn't have to worry about firearms being sold. But the criminals are always going to have them and they always will find a way to get them. And they aren't going to be from responsible shop owners like us," said Chuck Sherwood, owner of the Timber Creek Sportsman Shop.

Sherwood says further restrictions in New York State could force him and many other local shops out of business since customers can head over the border to Pennsylvania.
