BU Women lose 2nd straight conference game

STONY BROOK, N.Y. Chikilra Goodman scored a game-high 16 points, leading Stony Brook (10-6, 2-1 AE) to a 56-34 win over Binghamton (2-14, 1-2 AE) in an America East womens basketball game on Wednesday night at Pritchard Gym.

The loss is the second straight conference setback for the Bearcats.

Binghamton struggled from the field throughout the game, finishing with a 21.8 shooting percentage (12-of-55). In addition, the Bearcats could manage only four assists and turned the ball over 19 times.

It was a tough shooting night for us, head coach Nicole Scholl said. Stony Brook is a good team and we needed to finish our chances better.

Freshman guard Kim Albrecht scored seven points in the opening 8:22 of play as the Bearcats were down just 11-10 at that point. She drained a pair of three pointers during that span and went on to finish with a career-high 14 points.

Over the next 10:11 of play, however, the Seawolves went on a 24-5 run to go up 35-15 with 1:15 left in the first half. Goodman scored 11 of her points and the Bearcats committed eight turnovers during that stretch.

Junior guard Stephanie Jensen drained a three pointer at the buzzer, pulling the Bearcats to within 35-18 at the half. Freshman forward Morgan Murphy then hit the opening shot of the second half, trimming the deficit to 35-20 with 17:40 left in regulation.
Stony Brook answered with a 10-3 run in the ensuing 5:43 of play to go up 45-23 with 11:57 left in regulation. Jessica Previllon led the way with four points during that span.

The Bearcats shooting woes continued until Kara Elofson scored on a layup with 7:40 left in the second half. By that time, the Seawolves had a commanding 49-25 lead.

Junior guard Jasbriell Swain added 10 points, eight rebounds and three steals.

Previlon finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the winning effort. Brittany Snow also chipped in 10 points.

Binghamton heads to Boston University on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.
