State of the State Address

Most ambitious agenda yet in his three State of the State addresses.

That's how Governor Cuomo described what he wants done as he heads toward re-election and a possible presidential bid in 2016.

The address highlighted Cuomo's determination to improve the economy
strengthen education, support women's rights, bring gambling facilities to Upstate New York.

The big announcement everyone expected a call for stronger gun laws including restrictions on assault rifles something the governor says has nothing to do with gun ownership, or hunting.

"It is about ending the unnecessary risk of high capacity assault rifles, that's what this is about. We have a seven point agenda, number one enact the toughest assault weapons ban in the nation period," said Governor Cuomo.

Ali Warner has been in Albany, covering the governor's address, and she says it was obvious that Andrew Cuomo's rousing call for stricter gun laws was for the most part a real crowd pleaser. And that the state needs to do away with loopholes and force the ban of magazines holding more than ten rounds of ammunition.
