Pro-Fracker Says Promised Land Inaccurate

CHENANGO FORKS -- The new movie " Promised Land" has made a controversial debut in the Southern Tier.  The movie follows a salesman in rural Pennsylvania who is trying to buy land for  gas drilling.
Mayor Matt Ryan and a group of anti-frackers say it's a movie residents should go see. But a local pro-fracker say it is a dishonest portrayal.

Vic Furman of The Joint Landowners Coalition says the movie sensationalizes fracking and causes unneccessary fear.  He says that Matt Damon's character in particular is an inaccurate depiction of a drilling salesman.

"Someone ignorant to the facts, who thought he was coming into the town as a smarter person than anybody in the town.  If you know anything about New York landowners, they're very educated on drilling.  They have done their due diligence in researching the facts.  And we're ready for it in New York," said Victor Furman, a pro-fracker in Chenango Forks.

Furman says he expects the movie to cause more confusion to the fracking debate.
