The Penguins opened the games scoring at 8:21 of the first frame. Forward Beau Bennett beat B-Sens goalie Robin Lehner with assists from Riley Holzapfel and Robert Bortuzzo. The B-Sens evened the score at one on Derek Grants eleventh goal of the season at 16:30. Mark Stone and David Dziurzynski were credited with the assists.
The B-Sens found another scoring opportunity during the second period as forward Mike Hoffman netted his eighth of the year. The goal was scored on a power play with helpers from Stephane Da Costa and Andre Benoit to give Binghamton the lead.
In the third, forward Hugh Jessiman, assisted by Corey Cowick and Chris Wideman, added to Binghamtons tally at 6:04 to expand their lead to two. Jessimans insurance goal would seal the deal for the B-Sens as they beat the Penguins, 3-1.
Lehner earned his twelfth win of the season after facing 44 shots and making 43 saves. Jeff Zatkoff saved 12 of 15 shots, coming away with the loss for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The two teams will meet again on Wednesday, January 9, in Wilkes-Barre.
The B-Sens continue their weekend stretch with a two-game road trip, starting with a visit to the Hershey Bears tomorrow at 7 p.m. They will then face off against the Devils in Albany on Sunday at 4 p.m.
