No Moratorium for Town of Chenango
1/4/2013 (Updated 6:42:09 PM)
By a three to two vote last night, the town council rejected a proposal to ban drilling within the town's borders.
Town Supervisor Hal Snopek, who voted against the moratorium says he did so to avoid potential lawsuits, and says it's unlikely anyway that the state will issue any permits for hydrofracking in the new year.
Council Member Rhonda Pudiak, who voted for the ban says there are legitimate concerns about potential health hazards, and that most residents of the town do want a ban put into effect.
